Things Anyone Should Do: Enable Firefox Color Profiles
After the last post I noticed that there is a difference between how the photo of the kitteh is rendered.

Below is Safari3, or how I would like to call it “how it ought to be” and above is Firefox3 or “the f’ed up version”. As we can see Firefox3 shows images with way less contrast, with a bit of a grey overlay. So I did a quick call on Jaiku and Twitter and came across this post that explains that color profiles are off by default in Firefox.
For those who don’t know what color profiles are, read up on wikipedia about color management:
In digital imaging systems, color management is the controlled conversion between the color representations of various devices, such as image scanners, digital cameras, monitors, TV screens, film printers, computer printers, offset presses, and corresponding media.
Firefox3 does have an option to turn color profiles on, but it is turned off by default for “performance reasons”. I think this is bollocks and everyone should always see photos as the creator intended so I decided to turn them on.
The hard way of doing this involves editing some configuration in about:config but an easier way is to install this plugin instead.
So go and do this now and make sure you get to see my, and other people’s photos the way they should look.
